ABOUT OUR COACH
Shihan Norm Rivard is a 7th-degree black belt and a prolific competitor in bare-knuckle, full-contact karate. He has represented Canada at the highest levels of international competition, with notable victories at the Shidokan and Sabaki international tournaments.
Although retired from full-contact knockdown competition, he continues to compete in traditional kata in the Michigan Sport Karate Association. Click here for a highlight reel of some of Shihan Norm's notable full-contact performances.
Shihan Norm is the head instructor at KIHON, and is likely to be the first person you meet when visiting the school. Besides being a top-tier competitor, Norm is a world-class teacher. He has created a culture that excels at introducing new students to our sport - so don't be shy! KIHON is an extremely welcoming and beginner-friendly place to train.
WHAT WE DO
KIHON is about more than just punching and kicking;
Our school is a community of friends in mutual pursuit of continual progress and improvement.
Our primary focus is on developing well-rounded fighters and participating in (and winning!) high-level competition, but the KIHON KARATE curriculum also includes traditional Okinawan kata, grappling, and self defense strategies and techniques.
